5 Do's and Dont's while traveling
Traveling can be an amazing experience for everyone. Experiencing the world outside of your daily routine is a worthwhile journey. This event has the potential to enlarge your horizons and make you feel really emancipated. Life, as they say, is about the journey rather than the goal. So, to have the greatest trip possible, follow these simple travel do's and don'ts.
Do enhance your knowledge of the local language.
While servers and merchants will most likely speak some English (depending on your destination), it's always a good idea to learn a few common phrases ahead of time. Consider everyday phrases like "How much?" and learn how to express them in the country's original tongue.
Don't spend too much time on your phone.
Get out there and take in your surroundings sights, sounds, and fragrances! Be present with your group and have fun discovering a new location.
Do research about the destination.
When visiting an unfamiliar place, understanding as much as possible before departure is critical and will enhance your experience! Study the language. Remember, you're visiting another place, so don't expect everyone to speak your language! Learn about the local culture and customs; what is deemed normal in one place may be considered offensive in another. Investigate the region you'll be staying in; is it safe to go out at night? Are there any nearby beaches or shopping? It is always preferable to conduct research in the privacy of your own house rather than in an unknown setting.
DON'T DRINK the local water if it's contaminated.
Nothing is worse than falling sick on a once-in-a-lifetime trip because you drank untreated water. Before you go, do your homework: ask tour guides if the water is okay to drink, and if not, only consume bottled water. Keep in mind that food can also be cleaned or cooked with local tap water. If you get sick, bring some anti-nausea and digesting medication with you.
Do pack your things wisely, given the season and your travel plans.
A lack of appropriate outfits can have a significant impact on your trip, so remember to prepare for all scheduled activities. Layers are usually a good option because the weather may be unpredictable, and a pair of sports shoes is always a good choice for comfortable walking no matter where you travel.
DON'T suffer from jet lag.
As soon as you get to your destination, try to normalize your sleep routine; never waste your trip by going to bed at 7 p.m. every night; you could miss out on precious nightlife and vacation time. It will be worth it even if it means wandering about like a zombie for a few hours!
Do be kind to everyone you encounter.
Simple acts of kindness can brighten someone's day and benefit you, from flight attendants to hotel staff. Genuine compassion may go a long way and even get you some benefits.
Don't trek out into the city unaccompanied.
It's never fun to find yourself alone in a strange environment, so avoid venturing off on your own and always travel with a friend. In case of emergency, always have the local emergency number handy.
DO take precautions for your own protection when visiting a risky place.
Avoid dangerous conditions in other economies where thieves prey on tourists by learning how to:
Avoid walking at night or in lonely regions with big sums of cash on you.
Always park in an area that is well-lit.
Keep valuables hidden if possible.
Don't buy things if they are invaluably expensive.
Many sellers try to sell their products at high prices and which are not even worth their value. Avoid places like these to buy stuff.
